Welcome to World of Silence
I am Professor Jeff, a deaf educator and the writer behind World of Silence. I began this blog after losing my hearing as an adult. It first became a place to document medical appointments, hearing aids, cochlear implant surgery, activation, family life, and the many adjustments that came with a sudden change in how I experienced the world.
My story kept moving. I became a public-school teacher, learned more about how I listen and communicate in a busy classroom, and discovered how much practical accessibility matters—for educators as well as students.

I write from my own experience. Deaf and hard-of-hearing people are not one group with one story: we use different languages, technologies, and communication methods. Nothing on this site is medical, legal, or professional advice.
Why “World of Silence”?
The title came from the contrast between the world I once heard and the silence I later experienced. Cochlear implants gave me access to sound again, but silence is still part of my life—and deafness remains part of who I am.
